At the Parade Dental Practice we offer a wide range of orthodontic options including traditional clear or metal fixed braces, removable braces as well as very discreet cosmetic options called Clear Aligners such as Invisalign or Spark Aligners both for children and adults.
Your dentist will let you know when your child should have their initial orthodontic consultation, which varies from patient to patient. It is important to visit your dentist regularly so that any necessary treatment can be started as soon as possible. We offer the opportunity to pay in monthly instalments to spread the cost.
An increasing number of adults who missed out on orthodontic treatment when younger are also seeking a solution later in life. Traditional braces have progressed since the early days and are now lighter in weight and structure than they used to be. They are made from a high-grade stainless steel and have metal brackets that are attached to each tooth using a type of cement. The brackets are linked to each other with a thin archwire, which puts pressure on the teeth to cause them to move slowly into the correct position.
The archwires are connected to the brackets using tiny elastics known as ligatures or o-rings, which your orthodontist will change each time they tighten the braces. Some types of braces have brackets that don’t need o-rings, and these are called self-ligating braces.
These work in the same way as traditional braces, but the brackets are made from a clear, transparent ceramic material. The braces are less visible to others, which makes them a popular choice for adults who want orthodontic treatment.
This type of braces is currently enjoying a wave of popularity with orthodontists because it provides gentler treatment and requires fewer dental visits. Damon braces are self-ligating and use a slide mechanism instead of elastics to connect the archwires.
These braces produce faster results because the teeth can move on their own without needing to be adjusted. This causes less friction and pressure on the teeth, so movement is less uncomfortable. The braces are also easier to keep clean. Having to make fewer trips to your dental professional means that the process costs less in time and money, too.
While both clear aligners and braces move teeth, the way in which they do so is different. With braces, a wire is placed into fixed brackets on the teeth and as the wire changes shape, the teeth move with it. Orthodontists can make adjustments to the wire size, shape, and material in order to facilitate these movements.
Damon Braces give you a broader and healthier smile in less time and with greater comfort than conventional braces. Clinically proven for 20+ years with over 7 million smiles delivered.
The Damon System is not just about revolutionary braces and wires, it is a whole new way of treating patients. The Damon System utilises a patented slide mechanism to connect arch wires to the bracket while allowing the wire to move freely. The Damon System reduces friction and improves oral hygiene by eliminating elastic ties.
While treatment time can vary, the Damon System has been proven to be faster and require fewer appointments than traditional braces. Light force, high-technology, shape-memory wires move teeth more efficiently, reducing the number of visits and treatment times to help you better manage your busy schedule.
Damon Braces’ innovative approach to orthodontics is more comfortable than conventional braces.
The light, gentle forces used by the Damon System promote efficient tooth movement and help improve oral health by preserving tooth roots. Lighter forces also help prevent undue gum recession and tooth loss.
The elastic ties of traditional braces have been proven to attract and collect plaque and bacteria. Because it does not require elastic ties, the Damon System helps improve oral hygiene and protect gum health.

Clear aligners are suitable for adults and teenagers. They can be easily removed to brush and floss the teeth normally. They can be taken out to have dinner with family or friends, replaced with a mouthguard for sports or any number of short-lived activities.
With clear aligners, the setup and planning is different from the beginning. The orthodontist custom designs the treatment for each patient individually before anything else happens. A digital scan reproduces the exact position of each tooth and then the orthodontist can plan the amount of movement of each tooth individually or as a unit, how fast they will move, how many aligners the patient will have, and what, if anything, will be placed on the teeth. For example, often small, tooth coloured attachments, are placed on specific teeth to guide their movement. The patient will be given a series of aligner trays. Throughout the treatment, the tracking of the aligners and their progress will be checked and any adjustments made as needed. If they are fitting well and the teeth are moving properly, treatment will resume as planned. If modifications are necessary, they can be tailored to each individual, which is why it’s important to be using an aligner system that is guided by a professional.
Spark was developed with nearly 60 years of orthodontic knowledge that has been used to treat millions of patients worldwide. Manufactured by Ormco, one of the largest, most innovative orthodontic companies in the world, Spark’s standards are set high. Combine that with the experience of your specially trained dentist, Joana Machado and you’ve got a clear path to a confident, new Spark smile!
We know that each person is different in their treatment needs and Spark’s system allows the orthodontist to carefully and specifically accommodate everyone individually. For example, implants, which cannot be moved, or crowns, which are challenging to keep braces on, are much easier to work with as aligners can be designed in a way that simulates a tooth being immobilized in the bone or moves a tooth without the need of a bracket or an attachment. This makes clear aligners an excellent option for adults with significant prior dental work. It also provides them with a more aesthetic option if one of their goals is to be treated with something more discreet.
Spark aligner material is clearer and the custom trays are scalloped and polished to enhance your comfort.
Dr Machado is the first clinician in Jersey to offer Spark Aligners.
